  • Vivial has a great resource to enhance your digital presence based on summer trends.   • The Loop Corridor Planning process is officially underway and they’re asking for help to create a new vision for the Business Loop. Think of everything this street could become—an attractive gateway for visitors to Columbia, a retail powerhouse, an affordable place to start a business, and an educational hub that connects high schools with higher ed. Please join the meeting on Thursday, July 13 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Parkade Plaza, Room 128 for the first public planning session. It will be open house format with comment sheets so feel free to pop in for a bit before heading home.
  • Boone County has been selected to attend the Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland during the third week of November. Boone County was one of twelve communities selected and one of only three to be offered the course at the Maryland location. This four-day training event will combine classroom lecture, small group planning sessions, as well as an exercise portion to expose those attending to simulated disaster and recovery events as each participant would during a real event.
  • Williams-Keepers LLC Chairman Jeff Echelmeier, CPA announced that Jefferson City office Tax Partner John J. Sheehan, CPA, J.D. will retire on July 31, 2017. John has agreed to join long-time WK client Farmer Holding Company in the role of Financial Advisor on Monday, August 7. Because of the example he has set in his commitment to client service, the firm and his community, John will always be highly regarded at WK.
  • The Boone County Commission appointed Art Auer as Interim County Clerk. Art’s appointment was effective Saturday, June 24, 2017. This appointment comes following longtime Boone County Clerk Wendy S. Noren’s announcement that she will resign from her position effective June 23, 2017.
  • The University of Missouri School of Health Professions will host a Career & Opportunities Fair. The fair will be held Tuesday, October 3rd from noon – 3 p.m. at the Reynold’s Alumni Center located on our campus.  Registration is now open and includes a large booth, 1-2 parking passes, and lunch for up to 4 recruiters. The fee will increase incrementally as the fair approaches. If you represent a volunteer organization (meaning you are not attending to recruit students for employment or graduate/professional programs), please email shpcareer@missouri.edu to apply for a fee waiver.
  • J.D. Byrider of Columbia, Mo. is delighted to announce that they have moved to a new location at 608 Business West Loop and hired new management.
  • The Show-Me STATE GAMES will continue on July 21-23 and July 28-30 with more than 40 sports for all ages and skill levels. Registration is still open for all events. For more information about the GAMES, visit www.smsg.org .


  • KOMU 8 has won two national Edward R. Murrow Awards for Excellence in Website and Excellence in Social Media. KOMU 8 previously won the regional Murrow Awards in these categories and went on to win the national awards, competing against hundreds of television stations from 160 other markets across the United States. Awarded by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Murrow Awards recognize outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. KOMU 8 was awarded Excellence in Website for general excellence for KOMU.com and Excellence in Social Media for team coverage of the GOP gubernatorial debate in March 2016.
  • KOMU 8 has been named the 2017 Missouri Broadcasters Association Station of the Year for broadcasting excellence. KOMU 8 was recognized above 35 other television stations in Missouri for its quality of journalism, overall programming, community involvement and industry leadership. Some hallmarks of KOMU 8’s commitment to quality journalism, community service and industry leadership include:
    • The Target 8 investigative team, which serves as a watchdog for public agencies and helps solve problems for people in our community.
    • Storm Mode severe weather coverage, which keeps you informed and safe on every platform, wherever you are.
    • The live primetime broadcast of the 2016 GOP gubernatorial debate, which was a significant endeavor and investment for the benefit of our community.
    • Our unique Town Square public affairs programming, which allows viewers to ask the questions from our sources. We have hosted recent dialogues on issues such as marijuana legalization, minimum wage and gun control.
    • KOMU 8’s Fan Club, which helps to distribute fans to Mid-Missourians without air conditioning. In 2016, more than 400 fans were donated.
    • Extensive support of community organizations through event partnerships and donations.
    • Outreach to all Mid-Missouri communities through our Friday Night Fever football programming and KOMU 8’s Holiday Concert featuring more than 60 schools.
    • Investments in cutting-edge broadcast technology to allow us to better share stories and inform our community. Recent investments include a news-gathering drone, an augmented reality 3-D weather set, real-time traffic, and updates to our website, news app and weather app.
    • Serving as the premiere training ground for broadcast journalists at the prestigious Missouri School of Journalism. KOMU 8 is the only major-network affiliate in the United States that serves both an academic and commercial mission
  • Central Bank of Boone County announces fourteen employee promotions made in April and May.
    • Danielle Kiplinger, Ariel Adams, Elizabeth Jahns, Drake Luebrecht, Michael Fisher and Amanda Coyle were promoted to teller II. Employees are hired as a teller I then, once they’ve completed their training and have had six months of successful experience, they are promoted to a teller II.
    • Austin Rapp has been promoted to Central Investment Advisors sale assistant. Sales assistants work with financial advisors to assist customers with financial planning and investments.
    • Saira Farooqui has been promoted to customer service representative II in the Customer Service Center, which assists customers with account maintenance by telephone.
    • Tahliya Richardson has been promoted to loan Assistant at the Downtown Bank. Loan assistants act as a liaison between loan officers and applicants or customers by performing administrative duties related to loan origination and servicing.
    • Amanda Baker at West Broadway has been promoted to financial associate. Financial associates not only act as customer service representatives who assist customers with all aspects of daily banking, from opening accounts and making deposits to applying for loans, but also can act as a teller when needed.
    • Seth Pirtle at the Downtown Bank has been promoted to a loan processor. Loan processors process and review new loans, checking for accuracy, completion and compliance.
    • William Meneses and Montana Reno were promoted to commercial lending assistants at the Downtown Bank. Commercial lending assistants perform administrative tasks and maintenance of existing customer accounts.
    • Hanna Rustemeyer at the Hallsville Bank has been promoted to loan officer III. Loan officers are responsible for origination, underwriting and closing consumer loans, while also keeping customers and applicants informed.
  • Providence Bank announced that Eric R. Morrison, President – Columbia Market has been honored as the 1st Place Top Seasoned Pro Winner by the Columbia Business Times.

Non-Profit News

  • The Salvation Army in Columbia is hosting it’s first ever Bucket Blitz! What is a Bucket Blitz? The kettles will come out and we will ring the bells to fundraise for two days and have fun activities for the public to participate in. The Bucket Blitz will be July 21-22 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m at COnley Road Hy-Vee. Friday will be filled with a variety of live music. Saturday will include, a fire truck, bounce house, face painting and a visit from Santa Claus himself, in from vacation just for this special event. We are of course looking for volunteers to ring at either one of the three Hy-Vee, Gerbes or Wal-Mart locations. You wear your company shirts and hats, and we’ll provide the aprons.
