Leadership Columbia is one of the best ways for Chamber members to learn the ins and outs of local leadership and the unique challenges and opportunities in our community, as well as to expand their own leadership skills.  The 12-session program includes panel discussions, tours, hands-on experience, one-on-one interaction with community leaders, and group activities. Sessions also include a component specifically focused on leadership skill building.

Because the program is so intensive, only 30 people can participate each year. Applicants must demonstrate the ability and desire to assume greater leadership responsibility in the community, as well as support of the organization or business they represent.

“The Leadership Columbia program offers experiences that no other program in Columbia does.  Our Chamber does an excellent job of providing hands on experiences to attendees that are top notch.  The skills you acquire enable you to grow personally and professionally.  My personal experience was amazing!  I would highly recommend this program to both new and seasoned members of the Columbia community.  The contacts and friendships I have made would have never been possible without this program,” says Shatenita Horton with Providence Bank, Co-Chair of the Leadership Columbia 2017 class.

A program of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Columbia was developed to identify, cultivate, and motivate future community leaders. Participants join over 900 Chamber members who have completed the program since it began in 1986. This year’s program is presented by Stephens College.

Co-Chair Chuck Bowman of Monarch Title Company, Inc. says: “Attending Leadership Columbia was one of the most beneficial decisions I have made in regards to professional and personal development. The ability to meet community leaders with common goals and the opportunity to learn and share information made me an improved leader within my own organization and the community. It increased my network and provided me with additional resources that have benefited our business growth. The people I met have become lifelong friends, we continue to get together for lunch and social events and many of us serve on local boards and committees so that we have an opportunity to add value to our great community.”

Completed Leadership Columbia applications with a resume and tuition payment of $800 should be submitted by October 21 to Jolyn Sattizahn at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, 300 S Providence Rd, PO Box 1016, Columbia MO 65205.
