The Boone County 13th Judicial Circuit Family Court Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Steering Committee received an award from the Missouri Juvenile Justice Association’s (MJJA) State Disproportionate Minority Contact Steering Committee and the Missouri Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG) for its work addressing DMC. Courtney Pulley, DMC Coordinator, received the award on behalf of the 13th Judicial Circuit at the MJJA Fall Conference luncheon in Osage Beach, MO.

The Boone County Commission announces Boone County has joined the White House’s Data-Driven Justice Initiative (DDJ). The DDJ supports city, county, and state government efforts to use data-driven strategies to divert low-level offenders with mental illness out of the criminal system and to change approaches to pre-trial incarceration so that low risk offenders no longer stay in jail simply because they cannot afford bond.

Jo Ann Trogdon, author of the book The Unknown Travels and Dubious Pursuits of William Clark (U. of Missouri Press, 2015) will speak at the Boone County Historical Society on November 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Trogdon will share how her discovery of a virtually overlooked journal of Clark led her to reveal Clark’s highly questionable activities during the years before his famous journey west of the Mississippi. Admission to the event at 3801 Ponderosa Street, Columbia, is free. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event begins at 10:30 a.m. Book signings and sales follow at 11:30 a.m. Every Meet the Author presentation includes complimentary coffee and doughnuts.

Loriana Sekarski, president of BONSAI, recently completed the advanced training and exams required to become a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. She is the first and only in mid-Missouri to achieve this designation. Building on her 25 years experience of soft skills expertise, Sekarski provides one-on-one coaching, team training, and leadership retreats to improve leader effectiveness, employee engagement, and team productivity. Gallup research shows productivity improvements of 12.5% and individual performance gains (specifics) through strengths coaching.

Awards, Promotions and New Hires

Amanda Bargas was recently promoted to Mortgage Loan Originator at The Callaway Bank. Her primary responsibilities will be to develop relationships with clients as she guides them seamlessly through the process of home ownership by preparing appropriate loan documentation and managing mortgage loan closings.

Emma Ray was recently promoted to Branch Manager of The Callaway Bank’s West Broadway and Laske of the Woods locations. Her primary responsibility will be to manage all aspects of the two branches while overseeing customer service, staff training and sales goals.

The Central Bank of Boone County Board of Directors has named Brooke Berkey assistant vice president of business banking. Berkey manages large commercial relationships including both deposit, cash management and treasury services as well as lending needs.

Non-Profit News

D&H Drugstore again this year joins Voluntary Action Center, local faith congregations, and others to Warm Up Columbia. Hundreds of coats, jackets, blankets, hats, gloves, scarves, and socks are being collected by churches, groups, families, and individuals for distribution. The public can drop off items at D&H Drugstore locations, Commerce Bank branches, and Missouri Credit Union locations. Items will be distributed to low-income individuals and families Saturday, November 5 from 8:30 a.m. until noon at The Armory, 701 East Ash, in downtown Columbia.
